Tasmanian child abuse highlighted

Brain Injury Australia say the number of babies being beaten or shaken is far higher than most people realise and far more dangerous.
Tasmania has the third highest rate of substantiation of notifications of child abuse in the country, but the second lowest rate of investigation.
That has prompted Brain Injury Australia to call on government health and child protection authorities to be more vigilant in investigating traumatic brain injuries in children.
International research shows that for every child admitted to hospital with an inflicted brain injury, there are as many as 150 other children in the community that have been abused by their parents or carers.
